Figure 2b is a line graph depicting the temporal change in the population-based rate of post-mortem examinations of suspected prion disease case deaths, by year (1993-2014) and state and territory. There is significant over-lapping variability in the post-mortem rate for each state over the 1993-2011 timeframe. In the regions with smaller population sizes (Figure 2b), there is an overall temporal increase in the post-mortem rate although there remains significant variability. The exception is South Australia, where the rate has been variable with no clear trend over the time-frame. The overall positive trends observed are attributed to increased awareness of prion disease in the healthcare setting.
