Australasian Cochrane Centre


The Australasian Cochrane Centre (ACC) is located at the Monash Institute of Health Services Research within Monash University and facilitates and supports the work of the Cochrane Collaboration in Australasia. The Cochrane Collaboration is an international non-profit organisation the produces systematic reviews of reliable and relevant health and clinical research studies, published in the Cochrane Library.

Australian Biosecurity Cooperative Research Centre
The aim of the Australian Biosecurity CRC is to protect Australia’s public health, livestock, wildlife and economic resources through research and education that strengthens the national capability to detect, diagnose, identify, monitor, assess, predict and respond to emerging infectious disease threats which impact on national and regional biosecurity.

The Australian National Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Registry (ANCJDR) was established in October 1993 in response to the recognition of four probable Australian human pituitary hormone related CJD deaths. The ANCJDR is under contract to the Commonwealth to determine all suspect cases of TSE in Australia.

Cancer Council Australia
The Cancer Council Australia and its members are the leading funders of independent cancer research and related activities in Australia, granting more than $32 million to cancer research, research scholarships and fellowships in 2006.

National Centre for Immunisation Research on Vaccine Preventable Diseases (NCIRS)
The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) was established at the The Children's Hospital at Westmead by the Commonwealth Department of Health in August 1997, to carry out research and give independent expert advice about all aspects of diseases which can be prevented by vaccination, particularly in children. It provides a national perspective on social and other issues related to immunisation.

The National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research is one of Australia's leading medical research centres and is recognised internationally as a leader in the field of research into HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis. Founded in 1986 under the name NH&MRC Special Unit in AIDS Epidemiology and Clinical Research, the Centre established its offices in Sydney, Australia. The current name was adopted in January 1990 to reflect its expanded role under the National HIV/AIDS Strategy. The Centre is advised by a Scientific Advisory Committee.

National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC)
The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) was established at the University of New South Wales in May, 1986 and officially opened in November, 1987. It is funded by the Australian Government as part of the National Drug Strategy.

National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)
The NHMRC is the key agency for managing the Australian Government’s investment in health and medical research, and the sole contributor to this outcome. The NHMRC also disseminates authoritative public health advice, considers and promulgates advice on ethical standards in relation to complex health issues, research involving humans and animals, and regulates sensitive medical research activities.

Onemda VicHealth Koori Health Unit
Onemda research focuses on the development of Koori health policy, the relationship between primary health care delivery and the delivery of related health and community services, and the research, evaluation and workforce development infrastructure that underpins effective primary health care.

Research Centre for Injury Studies (RCIS)
The Research Centre for Injury Studies' mission is to contribute to reducing the burden of human injury and adding to knowledge of its nature, causes, effects and control.

WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza
The Australian WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza is part of the World Health Organization influenza surveillance network. The network was established in 1947 to monitor the frequent changes in influenza viruses with the aim of reducing the impact of influenza through the use of vaccines containing currently circulating strains.
