Surveillance and Reporting

  • TB Annual Reporting
    • This page contains links to annual reports on TB notifications in Australia and reports on bacteriologically confirmed cases and drug resistance from 1994.
  • National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS) data
    • The NNDSS was established in 1990 under the auspices of the Communicable Diseases Network Australia. The system co-ordinates the national surveillance of more than 50 communicable diseases or disease groups. The NNDSS public data set generates summary data for notifications of communicable diseases reported NNDSS. Up to date TB data is available here.
  • Australian national notifiable diseases TB surveillance case definition
    • This document contains the surveillance case definition for TB which is nationally notifiable within Australia.
  • Australian TB Laboratory case definition
    • The Public Health Laboratory Network has developed a standard case definition for the diagnosis of diseases which are notifiable in Australia. This page contains the laboratory case definition for TB.

  • Department of Immigration and Border Protection TB Health Undertaking
    • Health Undertakings are primarily designed to ensure that visa holders with a history or an increased risk of TB do not develop active TB while in Australia. By signing the undertaking, the applicant agrees to contact the Health Undertaking Service on arrival in Australia and to report for follow-up monitoring to a state or territory health authority, as directed by the Health Undertaking Service.
  • Department of Immigration and Border Protection Detention Services Manual
    • Chapter 6 of the Detention Services Manual contains a section on tuberculosis screening and management in immigration detention. This manual is available from LEGENDcom which is an electronic database of migration and citizenship legislation and policy documents which is available to members of the public on a subscription basis.


  • Australian Immunisation Handbook
    • The Australian Immunisation Handbook provides clinical guidelines for health professionals on the safest and most effective use of vaccines in their practice. These recommendations are developed by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) and endorsed by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Information about TB and the BCG vaccine is included in the handbook.

  • WHO TB Resources
    • The World Health Organization (WHO) TB page provides numerous resources and information to assist the international TB community.
  • Global tuberculosis reports
    • The WHO publishes an annual global report on TB. It provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the TB epidemic and progress in implementing and financing TB prevention, care and control at global, regional and country levels.
  • Stop TB Partnership
    • The Stop TB Partnership was founded in 2001, the Partnership's mission is to serve every person who is vulnerable to TB and ensure that high-quality treatment is available to all who need it. The Partnership operates through a secretariat hosted by the WHO in Geneva, Switzerland and seven working groups whose role is to accelerate progress on access to TB diagnosis and treatment; research and development for new TB diagnostics, drugs and vaccines; and tackling drug resistant- and HIV-associated TB.
  • International Standards for TB Care (ISTC)
    • The International Standards for Tuberculosis Care (ISTC), developed by the Tuberculosis Coalition for Technical Assistance (TBCTA) describe a widely accepted level of care that all practitioners, public and private, should seek to achieve in managing patients who have, or are suspected of having, TB.
  • BCG World Atlas
    • The BCG World Atlas is a database of global BCG vaccination policies and practices. This interactive website provides detailed information on current and past BCG policies and practices for over 180 countries. The Atlas is designed to be a useful resource for clinicians, policy makers and researchers alike, providing information that may be helpful for better interpretation of TB diagnostics as well as design of new TB vaccines.
  • US CDC TB Website
    • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website provides a range of TB materials.
  • International TB Control Program Contact Information
    • The CDC website contains a list of key TB contacts (and their contact information) for the majority of countries. This list is particularly useful for international notifications of TB.
  • UK National Institute Clinical Excellence TB Guideline
    • Tuberculosis: Clinical Diagnosis and Management of Tuberculosis, and Measures for its Prevention and Control (NICE Clinical Guidelines, No. 117). The guideline offers evidence-based advice on the diagnosis and treatment of active and latent TB in adults and children, and on preventing the spread of TB.
  • Evidence-Based TB Diagnosis
    • A comprehensive resource for evidence syntheses, policies, guidelines and research agendas on TB diagnostics.
