Paying your Medicare Compliance debt

Information to help you understand the process for paying your Medicare debt.

If you owe money to the Department of Health as result of a Medicare incorrect claim/s you will receive an invoice which will provide details of the amount to be repaid.

To repay your debt, please choose from the options below.

What you need to know

You must pay the amount you owe.

Under the Health Insurance Act 1973 you are legally responsible to repay incorrect claims. This is even if the incorrect claim was accidental; for example, incorrect item coding.

If you become aware of an incorrect Medicare claim you can let us know by completing the Voluntary Acknowledgement form

The Health Provider Compliance Debt function moved from the Department of Human Services to the Department of Health on 1 October 2016.
