Communicable Diseases Intelligence (CDI) is a quarterly publication of the Office of Health Protection, Australian Government Department of Health. It aims to provide information about communicable diseases in Australia to inform and assist those with responsibility for communicable disease control in a wide variety of settings.

Issues published in 2013 include four quarterly reports and a supplement on vaccination coverage amongst Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Summary of issues for 2013

Issue 1 - March 2013 contains annual reports on arboviral diseases and malaria, tuberculosis, and immunisation coverage, plus articles on ß-lactamases in Salmonella enterica, paralytic shellfish poisoning in South Eastern Tasmania, and increasing notifications of dengue, as well as guidelines on BCG vaccine; and the regular quarterly data reports.

Issue 2 - June 2013 contains annual reports on Australia's National Enterovirus Reference Laboratory, surveillance for Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, trachoma, and adverse events following immunisation among children, plus articles on chikungunya virus, an outbreak of staphylococcal food poisoning, polio surveillance, and adolescent school-based vaccination in Australia, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Issue 3 - September 2013 contains several annual reports on antimicrobial resistance surveillance programs, plus articles on impact on public health resources of a measles outbreak, the FluCAN influenza surveillance program and enhanced surveillance for gonorrhoea in Queensland, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Issue 4 - December 2013 contains annual reports on immunisation coverage, Australia's national notifiable disease status, the Australian Paediatric Surveillance Unit and Flutracking weekly online community survey, plus an article the epidemiology of sexually transmissible infections in New South Wales, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Supplement - December 2013: - Vaccine Preventable Diseases and Vaccination Coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, Australia, 2006 to 2010. This is the third report on vaccination coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and is prepared by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health.
